Hinton (William A.) State Laboratory Institute is closed over questions regarding its drug testing procedures.

August 26, 2012

The lab is closed over complaints that a single employee, Annie Dookhan, may have falsified tests results in thousands of criminal cases. Suffolk County District Attorney Rachael Rollins drops charges in tens of thousands of the cases in April 2012, and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts subsequently agrees to pay more than $14 million in fees and fines charged to more than 30,000 defendants in the largest drug lab scandal in U.S. history. Dookhan serves ore than two years in prison, but a subsequent court suit suggests that other lab employees may have been involved as well.
